Mermaid Poem About Being Yourself: "Emerging"

This heartfelt mermaid poem about being yourself serves as a gentle reminder that authenticity matters more than masks. You need not conceal your true self from the world around you.

Embrace the person dwelling within, even when vulnerability feels uncomfortable. Dare to emerge fully as you are, undaunted by the surprise your genuine self might inspire in others.

Mermaid Poem About Being Yourself

Emerging

Under the sea I am free
Caressed by a wave I am brave
Among the coral I am immortal
Beneath the surface is what I crave

Dare I do more than flip my tail
If I leave the water I might fail
Cautiously swimming toward the sun
I break the surface for a trial run

It's okay to be me and live here too
The sea is beautiful from either view
Above the surface others will see
That beneath the surface I am still me

Take A Moment To Reflect

Beneath The Surface

I can't really define a poem for you. You'll see it differently than I do.

You may see liberation here. Or timidity. Or a releasing of the baggage one carries through life, stunting growth.

Whatever you find in it becomes part of the poem.

The Feeling Of This Poem

This poem carries a leap of faith, water and air as two sides of self, and the freedom that comes from transcending self-imposed barriers.

It may resonate with those who wish to be themselves without fear of judgement while navigating through life.

A Quiet Pause

If you'd like to linger in the water a while longer:

  • Which image stayed with you?
  • Where do you feel most free?
  • What impedes you from breaking the surface?
  • What will you find when you emerge?

When You Might Return To This Poem

You might reach for this poem :

  • when fear gets the better of you
  • when you need a gentle reminder that it's okay to feel vulnerable when stepping outside of your comfort zone
  • when remembering a time when emerging as yourself made all the difference
