A Poem About Life - Buckets

A poem about life has the potential to be about anything and everything. But here I've explored the unfinished business of life, wishes unfulfilled, dreams not realized. I'm sure this theme resonates with many of us.

A Poem About Life

Buckets

A ship's bell rings
The harbor buoy tolls
Reminding me of what I need to do
A list of buckets, mine all empty
Their sound hollow and tinny
Isn't it better to live like this
Nothing to cross off, nothing to miss
No order to life
I'll play it by ear
Than leave behind a list
Unaccomplished each year
Who will get it upon my demise
And think me a failure before their eyes
Lives unfulfilled, buckets empty
Now teeming to the brim with ashes aplenty
Pour them onto the endless grains of sand
Scatter them into the ocean
Carried on the wind from the land
Specks of life dot the earthly plane
Not such a waste as it begins again
