Mermaid Sighting Poem: "Halfway"

If you glimpsed a mermaid stranded beyond the waves, what would be your response? This mermaid sighting poem asks if you would trust your eyes, or dismiss the vision as illusion.

This evocative verse blurs the boundary between possible and impossible, reality and fantasy, leaving the reader to wonder which realm they truly inhabit.

Mermaid Out Of Water Poem

Halfway

I saw a mermaid at the beach
She seemed so near, just within my reach
The closer I moved she was much farther still
Am I dreaming this scene against my will?

For I would not frighten a mermaid away
No, instead her fears I would allay
So we could meet halfway just as the sea touches the sky
And form new horizons as each day goes by

Take A Moment To Reflect

Beneath The Surface

It's difficult for me to examine a poem after I write it. Sometimes I'm not sure what they mean. Meaning is personal.

You may see fantasy here. Or possibility. Or the desire to have something be true when reality says otherwise.

Whatever you see in it becomes part of the poem.

The Feeling Of This Poem

This poem carries desired alliance, the horizon as a meeting place for two worlds, and the inference that all things are possible.

It may resonate with those who question common assumptions.

A Quiet Pause

If you'd like to linger a little longer:

  • Which image stayed with you?
  • What would you do if you saw a mermaid, or thought you saw one?
  • What new horizons have you formed recently?

When You Might Return To This Poem

You might reach for this poem:

  • before storytelling
  • while journaling
  • before a walk on the beach
