A Driftwood Love poem: "Driftwood"

The soft, worn texture of a piece of driftwood in my hands inspired this driftwood love poem. There is something about the whole process of going from what it used to be, to what it is now, that seemed a fitting metaphor for the effect love has on us.

A Love Poem For Her

Driftwood

Driftwood
Washed by the sea
Kissed by the sun
Something  old
Becoming something new
Branching out
Rough edges smoothed
I drifted until I met you
Because of you
I have branched out
And become something new

Take A Few Moments To Drift

Driftwood

Beneath The Surface

The feel of driftwood is a sensory experience. That is how the poem arrived to me.

For you it may be reminiscent of a day together at the beach.  Or the gratitude you feel toward your partner.  Or the acknowledgement of what your partner sees in you.

Whatever you find in it is now part of the poem.

The feeling of this poem

This poem carries a becoming, a branching out, a feeling that a shared love has blossomed.

It may resonate with those who felt aimless in life before finding their current partner.

A Quiet Pause

If you'd like to linger a little longer:

  • Because of your partner, how have you changed?
  • What changed in your partner because of you?
  • Is there anything drifting in your life right now?
  • Which image stayed with you?

When you might Return To This Poem

You might reach for this poem:

  • before an engagement or wedding
  • while beachcombing with your partner
  • as reassurance of who you've become
