Sky And Sea Love Poem: "You Are The Sky"

While staring out to sea one day, I realized the horizon is very much a sky and sea love poem. It's in perfect harmony. One reflects the other, yet does not become it. They are separate entities that combine to form an even greater beauty.

They wake up next to each other, go to sleep side by side. Each day reflects a dance between the two. Their togetherness is steadfast, yet always in forward motion. It has to be. There is always a tomorrow on the horizon.

You Are The Sky - A Love Poem

You Are The Sky

You are the sky
And I am the sea
Together we form the horizon
And watch as the sunrise
Dawns before us a new day
A thousand words unspoken
A thousand moments to fill

You are the sea
And I am the sky
Together we meet on the horizon
As a brilliant sunset melts into oblivion
Beams of light casting long shadows
Of a thousand words spoken
A thousand moments filled
A thousand tomorrows

For the horizon simply cannot be
Without the sky and the sea

Sit With The Horizon For A Moment

Beneath The Surface

I rarely try to define the meaning behind a poem. What it symbolizes for me may be entirely different for you.

You may see togetherness here. Or individuality. You may never fill your unspoken moments with words.

Whatever you find in it becomes part of the poem.

The Feeling Of This Poem

This poem carries wordless constancy, horizon light, and the impossibility of something greater without the individuality of two.

It may resonate with couples who can look at each other and...  just know.

A Quiet Pause

If you'd like to linger a little longer:

  • Are you the sky, the sea, or interchangeable?
  • As a couple, are most of your moments spoken or unspoken?
  • What line felt like it was speaking directly to you?

When You Might Return To This Poem

You might reach for this poem:

  • before a wedding or anniversary
  • walking hand-in-hand without words
  • while watching a brilliant sunset anywhere
  • as a reminder of how special your union is
